Issue Position: Civil Rights

Issue Position

In short, everyone needs equal opportunity, equal rights and equal treatment. Regardless of race, gender, handicap or sexual orientation. If ones faith does not understand someones lifestyle, then keep that within the religion. We are discussing the role of government in regards to civil rights and again, no one should be treated or disrespected simply because they are different from us. We are all different and we must learn to respect that and stand together as Americans first. Not by race, social class, party membership etc.

As much as I want fairness for everyone, I understand and respect the views of many churches in that marriage is between a man and woman. As long as they are not harming anyone or committing crimes, I will never stand in the way of a church and their views. But that does not mean a homosexual couple does not deserve the same rights, tax breaks and treatments that a heterosexual couple receives. Unless the government is willing to give the word "marriage" back to the church exclusively, my view is that there should exits a legal marriage recognized by the government for all couples and again, if the church wishes to recognize their own, I support that as well.

Take a step back for a second and ask yourself why we make our world such a difficult world to live in with all the hate, anger and frustration. We are too busy worried about everyone else and where has that gotten you? It is time we change this mentality. It is time we start living together as one.
